Last Friday I had a centre court ticket for the mens semi- finals. Wow I thought when I received the letter saying that I had been successful in the Wimbledon ballot. What a day but not in a good way. Spending nearly seven hours watching one very tall man, Isner, smashing serves to another very tall man, Anderson, while waiting for the Novak/Rafa match was purgatory. Anyway I am certain all the ETC next round matches will be more entertaining and undoubtedly shorter. So here are the line ups and previews:
Jiri (3) - Ahmad (2)
2017) Ahmad - Jiri 7:6 4:6 6:1
A big match up and potentially the game of the round between number 2 and 3 seeds.
Jiri is the current table leader but Ahmad won their previous encounter
in 3 sets. Hopefully Jiri now fit.
Darren (7) - Danny (1)
Another contender for match of the round. Darren, second in the table versus number one seed and current holder of the prestigious ETC title, Danny, and both first round winners.
Adrian (4) - Pete (8)
2017) Adrian - Pete 6:2 6:1
One of the two Poland v GB rivalries. Another clash of first round winners. Can Pete reverse the outcome of his previous straight sets defeat to Adrian?
Tomasz - Angela (10)
One of ETC’s band of coaches, Tomasz, takes on Angela in this second round clash.
Best of luck to both players.
Damian - Nigel (6)
Another Poland versus GB match up with both players seeking their first wins of the
competition. Damian though can take comfort from taking a set off Danny. Who will get on the scoreboard? Could be a nail-biter.
Slaw (5) - Roy (9)
Match where both players need the points to kick start their tournaments. It will certainly be a hard fought match between two classy stroke players.
